William E. “Bill” Thompson, 94, of Kenbridge, VA, was happily reunited with his wife of 74 years, Jeanne M. Thompson, on July 28, 2022. He was one of six children born to the late William E. and Eleanor Thompson. He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Possehl, Torrance, CA, two daughters, Linda Gorhan and husband Charles, Hendersonville, NC, and Deborah Hensly and husband Riley, Virginia Beach, VA, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was born and lived in Monmouth County, NJ until moving to Kenbridge 30 years ago where he continued to enjoy country living like where he had previously lived. He was fondly known as “Super Trooper” by many of his friends and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching car racing and other sports. He was a former farmer, plumber, volunteer deputy game warden, volunteer fire fighter, and member of the NJ State Grange. He retired from the NJ State Police in 1982 after 25 years of dedicated service. He was later employed as a federal civil servant at NAEC Lakehurst, NJ, where he retired in 1991. He was devoted to his church and family. Memorial contributions may be made to The Victoria Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 376, Victoria, VA, where he was a member. The family would like to gather with friends Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 2:00 pm, in the Fellowship Hall of the church, 1712 Main Street, to share memories of both Bill and Jeanne. A service will be held at a later date in NJ where they will be interred. Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, is assisting the family.
