Wilbur Gordon Smith, Jr., “W.G.”, 75, of Victoria, VA passed away on October 6, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Gordon Smith, Sr. and mother Mildred Newcomb both of Victoria, VA. He is survived by his wife Susan Smith of Victoria, daughter Stacy Davis (Bob) of Chase City, VA, son Kenny Smith (Kim) of Burkeville, VA, and granddaughters Kilee and Ada Davis; sisters-in-law Carol Keever, and Kathy Finsterwald (John) all of Pueblo, CO; a niece, nephews, cousins; his furbabies, Grey Ghost and Brandy, and many friends. W.G. served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970 including Vietnam. He was awarded The Army Commendation Medal in 1969. After honorable discharge he drove transfer trucks for34 years delivering goods all over the United States then retiring to his dream job of building racing engines. He loved spending time with his granddaughters who called him Paw Paw, music, working in his garden, watching drag racing on television, and grilling outside. The family will receive friends Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria from 1:30 PM until start of services at 2PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family to help cover funeral expenses. The family would like to thank the staff at The Hendrick Cancer and Rehab Center in South Hill, VA for all their kindness and compassion shown during W.G’s illness.
