CLARKE,
Naomi Lail Abernathy Clarke, 92, of Victoria, Va. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. She was born on May 9, 1926 to the late Ernest Oscar Lail and Iva Setzer Lail. She grew up on the family farm in Lunenburg County, and graduated from Victoria High School in 1945. Naomi’s first employment was with the Federal Government at Camp Pickett where she worked in communications. When Camp Pickett closed following WWII, she was transferred to Langley Field in Hampton, Va. She later served as an accountant for Kenbridge Tire and Recapping Company for thirty years. Naomi was preceded in death by her first husband James Marvin Abernathy, with whom they shared three loving children. After Marvin’s passing, Naomi wed Gordon T. Clarke to whom she was married for the last 25 years of her life. Gordon preceded her in death by one day.
She is survived by her daughters, Rose A. Wright (Tommy) and Jewell A. Widgins (Bill); her son, James M. Abernathy (Bernadine). She was a loving stepmother to two stepsons, Terry G. Clarke (Doris) and Jan Clarke (Carrie). She was the adoring grandmother to, Tommy Cole Wright, Briggs Wright, Tara C. Dickson, Mary Catherine Abernathy, Lawson Abernathy, Gordon “Opey” Clarke, Jonathan Clarke, Jeb Clarke and Thomas Clarke. She was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Stella and Diana Dickson. Naomi was a member of Central Baptist Church in Victoria. The family will receive friends Saturday March 2, 2019 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge where funeral services will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 2PM Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, Va.
