Mariam Barnes Vick

Mariam Barnes Vick of Kenbridge, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Mariam is predeceased by her husband, Hardy C. Barnes; her son and daughter in law, Ned and Connie Barnes, and her second husband. Herman Vick.

Mariam and Hardy raised three children. Daughter, Kitty Barnes Whitlow (Ronnie), two children, Kim Quinn (Keith) Casey Ramirez (Corazon), Ana; Joshua Quinn (Macey), Dawson, Adeline and Jameson is on the way. Jeremy Whitlow, Ayden. Son, Ned Barnes (Connie) one son, Benjamin Barnes (Beth) and Daughter, Nancy Barnes Baldwin (Bill), two children, Jeston Lotz (Travis), Harper, Wyatt and Bode. Katie Baldwin (Caroline). The family also recognizes Mariam’s dear friend, Joan Morris.

Mariam moved to Kenbridge in 1948 with her parents Roy and Kathryn Clark and her sister Kathryn Gray. She was a farmer’s wife who worked side by side with Hardy every day in their prized tobacco crop, livestock and grains.. She was named Farm Woman of the Year in 1984. She served on the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee for many years. She served on numerous other committees throughout the years. In her retirement, Mariam was an avid bowler,one of her favorite hobbies, an industrious and creative crafter, selling her wares at many local fairs and festivals. Perhaps her greatest pleasure was bragging about her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Mariam called Kenbridge her home for over 76 years. She loved her community and the people who live there. 

In 1985, Mariam’s biological brother, Bobby Wales, located her after many years of searching for her. It was a joyous event for everyone. Bobby and his wife, Martha, had three children.

A graveside service will be held 1PM Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a generous donation to the charity of your choice.
