Louise Monroe Cheely, 98, passed away on Dec. 27, 2016 at the Hundley Center in South Hill, Va. Louise was born on July 30, 1918 to Robert Monroe and Blanche Fraher Cheely of Brunswick County. She and Gene were married for 53 years and raised two children on a tobacco farm on route 40, Kenbridge. Louise worked in the dental clinic at Fort Pickett (Camp Pickett) and later at the Clarke Funeral Home. Louise is predeceased by her husbands, Gene Hawthorne and Ralph Hubble; her son Gordon Hawthorne; brother, Robert Monroe Cheely, Jr; sister Vivian Cheely and her son-in-law Charles Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Fraher Brown of South Hill; daughter-in-law, Mary Hawthorne; two grandsons, Anthony and Andrew Hawthorne; and great granddaughter Carsyn Hawthorne all of Chesapeake, Va. Pursuant to her wishes there will be no formal services. She will be cremated and buried beside Gene. Louise loved her family and the Lord; in her last days she called upon Him many times asking to be reunited with her family. “ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
