James Ray Hazelwood

James Ray Hazelwood, 85, of South Hill, Va. joined his family in Heaven on October 12, 2023. He was the son of the late James Aubrey Hazelwood and Edith Tucker Hazelwood; and father of the late James R. “Jimmy” Hazelwood, Jr.  He is survived by his grandson, Trevor S. Hazelwood; Trevor’s mother, Missy Chambers, and numerous cousins. Ray graduated from Kenbridge High School and served our country in the U.S. Army. He retired as a conductor for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad where he was given the nickname “Jim Dandy”.  He was a Ford man and an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed the outdoors especially turkey hunting and squirrel hunting. He was a past member of Bagley’s Mill Hunt Club. Graveside services will be held 2PM Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Oakwood Cemetery in South Hill.
