Frances Steed Bacon

November 16, 1936 — March 24, 2024

Kenbridge

Frances Steed Bacon, a loving wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully, after many years with dementia, on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Heritage Hall.

Frances, a native of Brunswick County, was born on November 16, 1936, to the late Virginia Tatum and Edward Peterson “Ned” Steed.  She graduated from Lawrenceville High School in 1954 then worked at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Lawrenceville.

Frances married J. Richard Bacon, III, the love of her life, on June 16, 1956 and enjoyed 48 years of marriage.  Her joy was Richard, until his death in 2004, and their four children. The heart of her home was the kitchen. Through the years, Frances generously shared her talents as an accomplished cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends who were sick or in need. Even in her later years, she still enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables from the garden.

Having been reared in the fellowship of Pleasant Grove Methodist in Meredithville, VA, after her marriage she joined Antioch Methodist in Kenbridge, VA, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Communion Steward, as the Worship Committee, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She organized many Children’s Day programs that were performed annually on Mother’s Day. For decades, she organized the traditional Brunswick Stew fundraisers.

Frances delighted in being “Ma” to her four special grandchildren, and as a “grandmother” to many others.  She was proud of all of them and pleased with whom they chose to marry.

To cherish her memory, Frances is survived by daughters, Diane Bacon of Winston-Salem, NC, and Susan Moseley (Walter Hill) of Kenbridge, VA; sons Ricky Bacon and Jeffrey Bacon (Dawn), all of Kenbridge, VA; four grandchildren, Brandon (Sydney) Moseley, Bobby (Katlyn) Moseley, Jacob (Cara) Bacon, and Leigh Anne (Brandon) Brewster; seven great-granddaughters, Kelly, Kerri, and Katey Moseley; Avery and Emma Bacon, Carrington and Brynn Brewster; and a sister, Sue Baker of Brodnax, VA.

Frances’ family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, visits, love, and support throughout her life. A special thanks to the devoted caregivers at her home for numerous years, as well as the caring staff of Heritage Hall in Blackstone, VA, where Frances resided the last four years of her life.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:00am at Antioch Church, 3489 South Hill Road, Kenbridge, VA 23944.  The family will receive friends from 9:45am to 10:45am, prior to the service.
