Charles Grady Edgar

October 22, 1936 — January 19, 2025

Burkeville

Charles Grady Edgar, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his chair on January 19, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on October 22, 1936, in Free Port, Florida, Charles was the son of the late Henry Edgar and Carrie A. Richardson Bradley. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary E. Edgar, as well as 11 of his siblings and a son-in-law Ron Lander.

Charles dedicated 21 years of honorable service to his country as a US Navy F-14/F-8 System Aircraft Organizational Maintenance Technician and Aircraft Mechanic. His commitment to excellence and duty was evident throughout his military career, culminating in a well-deserved retirement from the Navy. Following his service, he continued to contribute to his community as a security officer for Walmart.

A man of diverse interests, Charles found joy in gardening, particularly known for cultivating over 200 Amaryllis bulbs at one time. He was an avid football fan, passionately supporting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Above all, he was a devoted Christian who cherished his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Cyndy Fereday, and her husband David; his daughter adopted by love, Janet Leigh Lander; granddaughters, Analayne Fereday, Kathryn Fereday, Rachel Brewer and her husband Zach, Jennifer Culberson and her husband Jamie; great-grandchildren Abby Lewis, Taylor Brewer, Kara Culberson, and Cameron Brewer; and his brother, Stewart Edgar.

The family will receive friends at a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, in Chesapeake. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Society.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hickory Hill Retirement Community in Burkeville, VA, and to Laura Glasscock and her outstanding staff for their compassionate care of Charles. They also wish to thank Kenbridge Baptist Church for their moral support and prayers, and Clarke Funeral Home for their kindness and professionalism during this difficult time.

Charles Grady Edgar will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, faith, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Friends are invited to share memories and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.
